A Mundane Life

Shores of the Great Lakes

Life is anything but mundane. There is beauty in the day's repetitive nature. We define our moments with a flourish of words that we want to build our world up to be this picture of perfection. The truth is at the end of every day and every adventure there is always imperfection. That imperfection makes every moment anything but mundane. The big moments of our day make them seem to fade into one another. The secret is looking at the small moments. The ones that are never quite the same.

We never wake up the same way. We do not sleep the same way. The words on our screens hit a little bit differently each time. We do not pay attention to these things. We write off our small moments as part of the big ones. We intertwine them all to create the memory of the day. We call our days that feel the same mundane, dull, or boring. We assume that people do not want to know the little things and small moments that brought us joy or pain. That the world only wants to know the monumental.

Two weeks ago, I graduated. A few days after went on a celebration trip with my best friend and three of her kids. We celebrated not just my graduation but hers from the previous year. We had a great time. I plan to update the travel section about our trip up to Mackinac City. This past week I returned back to work from our trip. This is the part where it gets tricky. My mind is telling me there is nothing left to share that the small moments are insignificant. This is where I disagree with myself, small moments matter. Because of that, I am going to share some of those small moments from this past week.

I've binged two full seasons of The Vampire Diaries. My goal is to get caught up with my best friend. That way we can talk about it and watch the later seasons together along with the other shows. I forgot how much I enjoyed this show and also how over the top it was. I'm really glad to be doing this. I cannot wait to get to the later seasons. I can't remember if the Salvatore brothers ever stop fighting. I feel like they do, at least for a few episodes. Elaine and Stefan's relationship got on my nerves. I also don't really like Elaine at all. I didn't enjoy her that much in the books either. Bonnie has and will always be my favorite member of TVD, followed by Caroline, and Damon.

I spent part of the weekend looking through my Instant pot books look through recipe ideas to try this coming week. I enjoy using the instant pot. We've only used it seven times at this point; it is not as scary as I thought. The hardest part is making sure the valve stem is in the correct position before use. Everything else about it is pretty easy to use. Just make sure you follow the instructions; you will be all set. If you are not sure where to begin I recommend Pinterest. The first recipe we tried was spaghetti. It was easy to use and you cook all of it in the instant pot without dirtying up other dishes. Which I think we can all agree is a win-win.

The BFF got me turned onto the Mercy Thompson series by Patricia Briggs. I finished the third book last weekend. I'm excited to start the fourth one. I've always been a sucker for the supernatural. So reading someone else's take on it has always been intriguing to me. For those unfamiliar, the series follows Mercy who can change into a coyote. She was raised by werewolves, a close friend that is a vampire, and several Fey that are close acquaintances. I would say friends but the truth is you can never trust a Fey even one that has been good to you.

There are other small moments and things that made up my week. However, I will save those for another time and another blog. I hope you enjoyed this insight into my last few weeks. I hope to use this to give further insight into projects I am working on and other little moments that make up this life I live. Until next time.
